The Lake District
5 Days 4 Nights
A wealth of learning opportunities and outward-bound adventures
However, there is so much to see and do and with the weather of the Lakes being somewhat inclement, it is a good idea to combine outdoor activities with what else is on offer. It is a geography teacher’s dream and makes learning outside the classroom really come to life and it is no one why Wordsworth one of our most famous poets wrote so lyrically about the Lakes, or Beatrice Potter weaved her magic to create such delightful stories about a very famous rabbit and the animals that lived on the fells.
Travel from school or college to your accommodation in the Lakes. Arrive mid-afternoon and after rooms have been allocated there is time for a briefing and to explore your surroundings.
Today we visit Hillside the home of Beatrix Potter. Explore her favourite haunts by taking a cruise on Lake Windermere and also visit the World of Beatrix Potter. In the evening there are various outdoor activities to choose from.
In the morning Honistor Sleight Mines, This is the last working slate mine in England. Quarrying for Westmorland green slate has been taken place in the area since 1728. Apart from the mining, it is also a popular tourist attraction in the Lake District National Park.
In the afternoon we visit Go Ape in Whinlatter Forest before heading into Keswick for a look around the town.
A day at the coast beckons and we head for Whitehaven and visit the Rum Story and the Beacon. If there is time we can we visit Muncaster Castle. In the evening we have a barbecue and a camp fire.
This morning we relax with an early walk before the coach arrives to take us home.
