The North York Moors
5 days 4 nights
The North York Moors offers the perfect place to get away from it all
This morning we depart from school and travel to North Yorkshire where we Join the North York Moors railway at Pickering and travel to our accommodation through “Heatbeat” Country to the Fossil coast at Whitby.
Spend the morning at the Captain Cook Museum which is housed in the 17th century house in Grape Lane on Whitby’s harbourside where the young James Cook lodged as apprentice. It was here that Cook trained as a seaman and acquired those maritime skills which led to his epic voyages of discovery. In the afternoon, meet up with an expert guide and go fossil hunting along the coast.
Today we visit Scarborough Sealife Centre which has been voted the best venue for Science Learning in the School Travel Awards. Join their colony of cheeky Humboldt penguins and waddle with them at your feet on Penguin Island. We then catch the North Bay Railway to Peasholm Park and enjoy the afternoon on Sky Trail Adventure and a boat ride.
You will need an entire day to appreciate all which is on offer at Flamingo Land Resort. From roller coasters to penguins – this park has it all!
Today we head for home but not before stopping off at another fantastic location en route. Choose from visiting York and one of the many attractions on offer or alternatively stop for a break at Fountains Abbey before continuing your journey back home.
