The Yorkshire Dales
Undulating hills and river valleys, the Yorkshire Dales are an excellent base for geography and history field trips and bring learning to life in a natural classroom
5 days 4 nights
Visit the glorious countryside of Malham Cove and admire the towering splendour of this huge curving amphitheatre shaped cliff formation of limestone rock with the limestone pavement which appeared in a Harry Potter film resting above. Peregrine Falcons and Little Owls make the Cove their home, and the cove has been the source of inspiration for many works of Art and Literature and features in many walking Books. Put your walking boots on and explore Malhamdale.
Head underground to explore Britains longest show cave at White Scar Cave. Young visitors are introduced to the science and wonder of the subterranean world. The one mile guided walk ensures that learning is combined with exercise!
Let off steam for the day at Lightwater Valley Theme Park. There are thrills and spills for the daring and a Falconry Centre to explore too!
Spend the morning at probably the most unique folly you could with to visit, The Forbidden Corner near Middleham. Explore The temple of the underworld, the eye of the needle, a huge pyramid made of translucent glass, paths and passages that lead nowhere, extraordinary statues – at every turn there are decisions to make and tricks to avoid. Why not visit Middleham Castle, childhood home and hunting lodge of Richard the 1st. The town is also home to many racing stables so you might just spot the next Derby champion.
In the afternoon we take a walk with local guides to a lead mine up in the hills of neighbouring Swaledale where your students will learn how children as young as four used to work in the mines.
Afterwards we head back to our accommodation for a barbeque and camp fire to talk about our experiences of the week.
This morning we pack our bags and head off back to school.
